The Role
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and reviewing Construction and Development (C&D) financial statements. The Senior Staff Accountant will also work with the C&D Assistant Controller to ensure that deadlines are met timely and accurately.
Duties & Tasks
- Analyze monthly portfolio detail and research significant accounting matters.
- Review staff accountants’ work and comment on completeness and accuracy.
- Possess detailed understanding of most C&D transactions, systems and related industry terms.
- Review agreements and contracts to ensure compliance in reporting and payment obligations.
- Prepare and review wires and ACH payments.
- Act as a liaison to Internal and External Audit in relation to C&D matters.
- Effectively use Unifier and Workday to prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, transactions, and account activity.
- Investigate and resolve outstanding items within the C&D portfolio.
- Assist in the training of staff accountants and develop strength as a coach/mentor.
- Participate in the evaluation, development and documentation of accounting procedures, policies and controls.
- Additional duties and projects as assigned by management.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Undergraduate Degree in Accounting from an accredited business school.
- CPA designation is desired.
- 3 years accounting experience in monthly financial statement preparation and review is desired.
- Real Estate background desired.
- Possess a strong customer service focus.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word.
- Superior time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively train staff accountants.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to work well with accounting team, construction and development management team, and other departments, including upper management.
- Possess strong analytical skills.
- Strong sense of teamwork and work ethic demonstrated.
- Willing to work on a flexible schedule (some overtime required).
