The Role
Summary of Job Description
This position works closely with the tax manager to ensure federal and state tax compliance for a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). The tax accountant’s primary duties are preparation of income tax returns and REIT asset and income tests. This position also researches tax issues necessary to file tax returns correctly and supports the department in periodic work related to maintaining REIT status.
Essential Job Functions:
- Runs reports from internal accounting systems and effectively communicates with associates to ascertain the information necessary to file tax returns.
- Prepares federal and state tax workpapers and works with third party prepares to ensure tax compliance is done in a timely manner.
- Maintains current knowledge on federal and state tax regulations for markets in which AVB operates.
- Research tax regulations to determine applicability to AVB business operations.
- Reconciles fixed assets monthly to incorporate new asset additions and forecast tax depreciation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax, or related field required.
Certification or Licensures:
- None required.
Experience:
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in an accounting/tax-based position
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic knowledge of partnership and corporation taxation.
- Demonstrates integrity and strong professional ethics.
- Ability to adapt and continue learning.
- Reads and writes English as demonstrated by clear and concise written and verbal communications.
- Creates and delivers group presentations on function-related subject matter and writes reports in a clear, concise form.
- Performs general arithmetic skills to analyze complex financial and business operations figures.
- Performs basic Microsoft Office applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
- Demonstrates strong organizational and multi-task prioritization skills.
- Works well independently, as well as part of team.
- Displays proficiency with time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel and Alteryx.
- Ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets.
- Takes ownership of projects and drives projects to the finish line.

Training:
- Satisfactory completion of AVB’s new hire orientation within 30 days of employment or the first training session offered after employment.
