We are seeking a self-motivated and collaborative Director of Learning Technology to join our Learning and Development team at our Corporate Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.

The Role

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Learning & Development,the Director of Learning Technology develops and implements learning technology strategies and instructional solutions to meet AVB business goals. This includes the design and development of technology-based learning solutions, evaluating learning programs and industry trends, and ensuring quality standards are maintained. Training content ranges from onboarding to compliance, systems, leadership development and soft skills for our 3,000+ associates. The role will also lead a team of two associates.

Learning Technology Strategy and Instructional Design (ISD)

  • Develop learning, performance management and talent technology and instructional design strategies and standards that support AVB’s overarching business goals and maximize associate performance.
  • Evaluate new learning, performance management and talent technology software and products for AVB use and manage implementation.
  • Partner with internal experts, external vendors and/or academic institutions to execute learning, performance management and talent technology strategies.
  • Research and incorporate knowledge of industry trends and best practices to continuously improve learning, performance management, and talent technology, instructional design, and training.

LMS Oversight

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on AVB’s learning management and related HR systems (performance management and talent) and ensure system scalability and stability by developing and enforcing standards, policies, processes, workflows, and advanced reporting.
  • Remain current on all releases, ensuring that AVB is capitalizing on all features and benefits.
  • Manage relationship with LMS and other vendors to ensure that AVB is receiving adequate support and the appropriate level of service.

Training Program Management

  • Establish and report metrics for measuring training and L&D team effectiveness.
  • Design, plan and implement learning and development, policies, and procedures. (e.g. training refresh policy, project intake/needs analysis process, project charters)

Training Design and Development

  • Consult with business clients on performance issues; conduct needs assessments and analyze learning needs.
  • Design, develop/source and implement blended technology-based learning solutions in a variety of delivery modes for training content ranging from onboarding to compliance, systems, leadership development and soft skills.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness to maintain quality and impact; recommend changes to clients and implement as needed.
  • Effectively manage projects and programs (e.g. plans, schedules and communication) to support development and implementation of training.
  • Support design and implementation of Corporate, Human Resource and/or Learning and Development initiatives as needed.

You Have...

Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Human Resource Development, or a related area. An advanced degree is preferred.

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in Learning and Development field including instructional design, LMS oversight, e-learning development oversight, and performance consulting in a corporate business environment.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Spanish language skills a plus.

  • Demonstrates a passion for using technology to achieve learning and business outcomes
  • Exhibits proficiency in all facets of the instructional design process, including needs assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation as demonstrated by work products with current or previous employer.
  • Experience with instructional technology/media tools (e.g., Articulate, Captivate, Adobe Creative Suite) and online learning development methods. Video production experience preferred.
  • Previous experience managing a learning management system and/or document or content management systems.
  • Designs, develops and implements/delivers learning solutions using online, instructor-led, live-virtual, and blended learning approaches.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data to effectively support performance improvement recommendations and solutions.
  • Proven ability to suggest solutions based on needs evaluation. Design, develop/curate competency-based learning solutions to close gaps between current and desired skill levels as demonstrated by current or past work experience.
  • Experience with selecting and managing technology and other vendors.
  • Strong project management, organizational and administration skills with a track record of successfully managing complex and multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Big picture thinker with the ability to synthesize information and formulate a clear strategy and plan for execution.
  • Strong relationship-building, collaboration, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Capable leader who engages, motivates, challenges, develops and holds others accountable.
  • Experience in Real Estate, Financial Services, Professional Services, Retail or Hospitality industries is a plus.
  • Experience with Leadership Development and Inclusion and Diversity training is a plus.
